Thursday 15 August 2024 A-Level Results 2024 We are very proud of our A level students this year. They have worked incredibly hard throughout their time in the Sixth Form and have prepared themselves fully for the next stage in their education or chosen career, with nearly a third of all A-Level results being either an A grade or one of the prestigious A* grades. They are without doubt an impressive group of young people who have navigated their way through their time in our Sixth Form with maturity and resilience.

Friday 24 May 2024 Celebrating Sixth Form Life - By Leah Ward (U6) I picked up the clarinet at 10 years old with the Cyprus Music Service, and at the time I considered it a fun hobby. I enjoyed playing in ensembles and was a member of the St John's brass band in Episkopi, and with the music service took my grade 2 and grade 3 exams. However, moving to a new school took away my motivation to learn and perform. This, mixed with the Covid-19 pandemic and a six month break from weekly music lessons seemed to be my final straw; I was ready to quit. My motivation to continue was non-existent, until one evening in the summer of 2020, my dad and I took a bike ride down to the RAF base and sat on a bench by the hangars, where he told me about the RAF band, a career path I had never considered before. It was a turning point for me, and the first thing I said to my music teacher when returning to school was that I was going to join the band, no matter how hard I needed to work.Since then, my determination hasn't once faltered. The best decision I made was to joi

Thursday 16 May 2024 Celebrating Sixth Form Life - by Yemisi Akande (L6) It was an honour and thrilling opportunity to represent England, over the summer, at the 2023 commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in the 100m and the mixed 4x100m relay. In my events, 100m, I came 6th in the final with a personal best of 11.6s and the mixed 4x100m, taking first leg and coming home with a silver medal. Being able to spend two weeks competing abroad, with other athletes my age, doing the sport I love, and in a beautiful and welcoming country, was a moment I’d never forget.

Tuesday 7 May 2024 Viasat Beyond: Space UK STEM innovation competition - Mesha Tennyson (U6) Viasat is a global satellite communications company operating in space, and, in this unique competition, I had to develop ideas to help space stay sustainable, safe, and equitable by tackling the exponential growth of space debris. There were three phases which have been in the running since October 2023. I had to give my answers to two questions: Why this issue was important to me? & What is my potential solution? I then proceeded to the second phase where I had to create a 60 second video about my idea. Next, Phase three; me and four others were invited to pitch our ideas to an esteemed panel of judges at the Viasat London HQ. I was guided by amazing mentors from the company, and I met so many inspiring people at this event. I placed 3rd out of 1,200 and won £1,875 as an educational grant! I have also won a work experience week with the other four amazing contestants in the summer to look forward to.

Thursday 18 April 2024 Celebrating Sixth Form Life - by Annabell Sanderson (U6) I am currently producing (training) two young horses who are jumping 1 metre 20cm, one of whom has qualified for the national member’s cup championship, which will be held in the summer. I am looking forward to the next season with them as both have a lot of potential. Unfortunately, my top horse who I was on track to jump the under 18 European trails broke a bone in her foot, thus she has had to take the year off and hopefully it won't be long until I am back riding her again.

Thursday 18 April 2024 Horncastle Lions donate £600 to QEGS Horncastle Lions have once again generously donated money to QEGS this year. Phil came in to school to hand over the cheque for £600. The Student Council, represented by Rynad and Connie, have been working on a project to install an eco-garden within the school grounds, and this money will enable them to purchase a more extensive range of items to achieve this aim. This tallies with the school's objective of continually lessening its environmental impact. We are very grateful for the continued support of Horncastle Lions and look forward to welcoming them back when our garden is finished.

Thursday 28 March 2024 Year 8 English Civil War experience in Newark! 2024 The History department took Year 8 students to visit the Civil War Centre in Newark on the 14th and 18th March. Students had a great day, enjoying a packed itinerary including a role play activity on the trial and execution of Charles I (which included a great prop of his head!). They also were shown around the sights of Civil War Newark including a visit to the castle, where the visible marks of cannon balls can still be seen in the castle walls. Students also looked around the Civil War gallery and enjoyed dressing up in 17th century clothing and armour. Probably the most fun part of the day was the Arms and Armour session where students had to guess the injury and fate of a Civil War soldier by the rather gruesome wound on the realistic prop on each table. They were then shown how to load and fire a musket and had to try to do this in 30 seconds (cue much hilarity - I'm not sure how well our Year 8 students would actually manage as musketeers!). A few students were then dressed as d

Wednesday 27 March 2024 Football Trip On Tuesday 26th March, 48 students (Y10-13) travelled to Wembley Stadium to watch the England men's football team play Belgium in an international friendly. Despite England not winning, it was still a thrilling game to watch with the final score ending 2-2; this included England scoring an injury time equaliser. All students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of watching some of the best footballers in the world such as Foden, Bellingham and Doku. In addition to this, for many of the students it was their first experience of attending a live football game (not a bad first game to watch live). Due to the success of the trip, hopefully, this will become an annual event #englandtowineuro24.

We were joined by teachers and psychology students from QEGS Alford. The lectures included, How the sociocultural environment shapes our body image and addiction and gambling disorder. Both academics shared their most recent research and the impact of their findings. It was a fabulous opportunity for the students to engage in psychological research, being shared by the researcher, rather than just reading about it in a textbook. A great morning of psychology and a brilliant opportunity for students to experience university lectures.

Monday 29 January 2024 Pupils Attend VoiceIT On 24th January, students in years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to attend Voice It, a music industry at Lincolnshire Showground organised by Lincolnshire Music Service. During the day, students opted to attend different workshops led by professionals including choral/harmony singing (Mark deLisser, composer & vocal coach on The Masked Singer), vocal performance skills (Hayley Sanderson, vocalist on Strictly Come Dancing, audio and sound production (Hannah Fletcher, BBC Radio Lincolnshire), rap and poetry (Karl Nova), 'LIfe on the Road' (The Drill Hall) and song writing (Elliot Morris, QEGS Alumnus & professional singer songwriter). At lunchtime we were privileged to watch a performance by the band from RAF Cranwell. The day was fun, insightful and provided opportunity for hands-on development of skills. Students thoroughly enjoyed the day and it raised awareness of the vast scope of career opportunities within the music industry, beyond just being on stage. The photos show Jess

Friday 17 December 2021 Cinderella Last week, QEGs staged a spectacular production of Cinderella the Pantomime and it was a huge success. Since September, students have been working tirelessly in rehearsals to put together a show that captures the essence of Christmas for families. It was fantastic to see their hard work pay off in what truly was a laugh-a-minute show. The show had it all: Trouble making ugly sisters, a handsome prince, a magical Fairy Godmother, spectacular dancers and brilliant singers. There was even a dinosaur (oh-yes-there-was)! From the moment the curtains opened the audience was taken on a magical ride. We are extremely proud of the talent that we have amongst our students at QEGS.
