Year 9 Girls' Rounders Tournament
QEGS Horncastle once again hosted the girls’ rounders tournament, this time for year 9. There were 9 entries from 8 different schools, split into two sections.
In section one QEGS Horncastle A team had three easy games to take them straight into the semi-finals; they beat De Aston 8 ½ to 1 ½, Louth Academy 6 ½ to 1 & Skegness Grammar 10 ½ to ½, finishing as winners of section one.
In section two QEGS Horncastle B team (year 8’s) played really well beating Banovallum 2 ½ to 1 ½, Caistor Grammar 7 to 1 ½ & Somercotes Academy 5 ½ to 1 ½. Unfortunately, they lost to KEVIGS, Louth 6 ½ to 8 & therefore finished second in section two.
So, in the semi-finals QEGS Horncastle A faced QEGS Horncastle B. QEGS Horncastle B won the toss & put QEGS Horncastle A into bat. Strong batting from most of the team saw them amass a total of 7 ½ rounders. QEGS Horncastle B found it very difficult to bat as the fielding from QEGS Horncastle A was very tight, only allowing 2 ½ rounders.
QEGS Horncastle B went onto play Louth Academy for 3rd/4th place & won easily, therefore finishing in 3rd place, which is an excellent result for a year 8 team playing in a year 9 competition.
QEGS Horncastle A went on to face Banovallum in the final; again they lost the toss & were put into bat first. Solid batting & calculated risks saw them score 5 ½ rounders. Once again the superiority of the fielding skills from QEGS Horncastle A meant that Banovallum struggled to score & ended the innings on 2 ½.
A convincing tournament win for the year 9 team, undefeated in 5 games, scoring 38 ½ rounders & only conceding 8 rounders.
A Team (see photo) consisted of: Jess Frick, Maisie Farrington, Flora Gemmell, Amelie Millns, Lacey Holgate, Millie Walker, Erin Wilkinsoln, Maggie Ward, Jasmine Bontoft & Hattie Trestrail.
