The Netball Report - Autumn 2021
Netball fixtures are back & QEGS have continued to dominate in the Coastal & Wolds area.
Skegness Grammar School have hosted some friendly tournaments this term with Banovallum, Skegness Academy, Skegness Grammar & ourselves participating in a round robin format. The first tournament started on Thursday 16th September with Year 11, Wednesday 29th September was the year 10 one, Tuesday 5th October was the year 9 one & finally the year 8 played on Wednesday 13th October. All teams won every game, hardly conceding any goals. This was more impressive as all the teams were under strength due to a variety of reasons.
There were 3 National qualifying tournaments this term for U14, U16 & U19.
The first of these was U19 & was hosted by Caistor Grammar School on Wednesday 29th October. Our 6th form team was made up of years 12 & 13 students who had never played together before. We finished in 2nd place behind KEVIGS, Louth & have both qualified for the County tournament on Wednesday 17th November in Stamford.
The second tournament again was hosted by Caistor Grammar School on Wednesday 6th October. We beat KEVIGS 13-8, Louth Academy 12-0 & Somercotes Academy 14-1. We then went onto the semi finals where we beat QEGS Alford 6-4 in a very competitive match & went onto the final where we beat Caistor Grammar School 12-9. As a result we have qualified for the County tournament at Stamford on Saturday 13th November.
The final tournament was for U14 & was held at KEVIGS, Louth on Wednesday 13th October. We beat KEVIGS 10-4, Caistor Grammar 10-2, Banovallum 11-2 & Louth Academy 18-1, finishing as winners. Once again we have qualified for the County tournament at Stamford on Saturday 13th November.
We wish the U14, U16 & U19 lots of luck in the County tournaments, knowing that if they finish in the top 2 they will qualify for the Regional tournament at Oundle in January.
Also we have had lots of students being selected for the Lincolnshire Netball Academy. In the U15 Academy Poppy Pearson, Emilly Martin, Eve Campbell, Olivia Crow & Luccia McKee were all selected. Year 9’s Hattie Trestrail, Olivia Maplethorpe & Flora Gemmell were selected for the U15 Development Academy and in the U13 Academy Katherine Hunter & Rosemary Wilmshurst were selected.
