English

The English department covers literature, language and the media developing skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening – meet the teachers.

GCSE students' study both English literature and language, with English literature and English Language being an option for A-level students. Mentoring and support sessions are offered to KS3 and KS4 from A-level students under the guidance of staff.

The school collaborates to produce plays and musicals for public performance, organises public debating competitions, theatre trips and invites speakers, poets and published writers into the school to run workshops.

Regular reading groups are available, creative writing clubs and competitions, students can also submit work to our school magazine The Glass Corridor. Students are encouraged to read a wide range of literature both in and out the classroom from 16th century texts to the present day.

Film

The students have the opportunity to become creative filmmakers under the guidance of the teachers. The film studies room is open most lunchtimes to use and occasional workshops are available to offer technical guidance, editing and advanced filmmaking.

 

Both exam courses at GCE and GCSE are with WJEC.
