Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

QEGS Swimathon March 2024

The first QEGS Swimathon was held on Wednesday 27th March at Jubilee Park. With 35 enthusiastic students taking part. It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves to swim non-stop from 30 minutes to 3 hours. The positivity and determination shown by all involved, to challenge themselves whilst raising money for QEGS was fantastic to see. To all of the swimmers that took part and to our sixth form helpers – thank you!
 
Please find a few interesting statistics regarding the event below:
  • 30 students took part in the event from Y7 - Y13
  • 42 hours of swimming took place
  • 2,292 lengths were swam collectively
  • The furthest distance swam by an individual swimmer was 5.6 miles 
  • This equates to 47 miles being swam. Which is equivalent to swimming from Horncastle to Lincoln and back
  • Or...Horncastle to Stamford
  • It is also...the equivalent of swimming the distance of the English Channel, TWICE!
