UCAS Exhibition and Oxbridge Conference
Last week both Year 12 and Year 11 students had the opportunity to gather information about Higher Education and alternative post-18 options. On Wednesday 23rd March, Year 12 students visited the UCAS Exhibition at the University of Lincoln. During the morning, they joined schools and colleges from across Lincolnshire to visit the marketplace in the Engine Shed filled with over 100 universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers and employers. After lunch, we were privileged to be given access to the new University of Lincoln Medical School lecture theatre for a busy afternoon. We were delighted to be joined by local businesses and QEGS Alumni for a question-and-answer session, where students heard about everything from diverse career paths to the innovation currently taking place in the Lincolnshire labour market. Our thanks to Natalie Poole (Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership), Tony Smith (Genius Technology Solutions), Leo Scott-Smith (Tended), Leo Williams (YMCA Lincolnshire) and Katrina Pearce (Federation of Small Businesses) for giving their time and answering the questions with such informative and honest responses. The day was finished off with a presentation about student life from current University of Lincoln students Max and Sophie, it was particularly wonderful to hear from Max (our 5th QEGS Alumus of the day!).
On Friday 25th March, Year 11 students visited the Oxbridge Conference at Priory Academy LSST. With a very busy agenda for the day, students had the opportunity to hear from Oxbridge admissions tutors, staff and current undergraduate students. Workshops helped them to discover how Higher Education at Oxbridge differs from other universities and what is required to succeed in an Oxbridge application. Remember, opportunity is now here!
