Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Physical Education

Physical Education is at the heart of the school which is facilitated by a large sports hall, the main hall and extensive playing fields.

We are very fortunate to have excellent links with the local community and benefit from using these great facilities in lesson time such as Horncastle Tennis club, the Astro-turf and Magna Vitae leisure centre.

Years 7-11 are exposed to a range of activities, developing their knowledge of rules and tactics. Year 7 -9 can also compete for Student of the Term and inter-form activities at the end of every term. Games lessons are also compulsory for Y12-13 students, where on a Wednesday afternoon, students have the chance to represent the school in sports fixtures. Y13 students also have the option every Wednesday to pursue activities outside of school such as swimming or going to the gym.

Physical Education is an option at GCSE and A-Level students can take the Level 3 Sports Leaders Award, as well as participating and competing in fixtures with other schools. You can view our PE staff here

Students are given the opportunity to help the department run extracurricular practices at lunchtimes and adopt other roles such as being a leader, coach or official as well as competing in sports at district, county and regional level.

An annual trip is a 3-day tour of Derbyshire in July for keen Year 9 cricketers, this proves to be extremely popular amongst the students. There are also many opportunities to get active in Lincolnshire

As a department we encourage participation and competition in a variety of sports with teams in football, rugby, netball, hockey, athletics, cross country, badminton, rounders, table tennis and cricket.
