Celebrating Sixth Form Life – By Archie Carder (L6)

Oxbright is an independent organisation partnered with Oxford University, which support students with online learning, webinars, internships and courses. The essay competition I completed was their main annual competition for multiple subjects from medicine to engineering to economics. They gave you a general question, and asked for a title, essay and some short questions about myself in the process of application, with the essay being the main part.

The question was about collaboration in your subject, and how it is has impacted the subject. It had to be at most 1500 words, excluding a full bibliography using formal Harvard-style referencing, and you could talk about anything that you thought showed collaboration, using only your own research, writing and thinking.

I found this competition purely though looking online, and applied about a week before the deadline in March. By the end of April I had found out I'd been one the 1000 internationally shortlisted applicants across all subjects, and that I was invited to an online awards ceremony in May. Many prizes were on offer, with the best essay overall receiving a £6995 scholarship to an oxford summer school. After the awards ceremony, they published the list of the top 200 international 'Highly Commended' applicants, and out of the 20 economics essays in that list, mine was one of them.
