Lower 6th Geography Fieldtrip to North Yorkshire

After three years it was great to finally get back to North Yorkshire and Whitby for the 6th Form geography residential field trip (21st-23rd April). This trip provides valuable experiences in preparing students for the rigours of their independent investigations that they will undertake shortly and in making links back to content that has been covered in the classroom. A wide variety of activities were undertaken over the three days: a soil investigation on the North York Moors, coastal fieldwork at Sandsend and a comparison of different urban areas in Whitby itself.

In addition, the students enjoyed a presentation about the Whitby Goth Weekend as well as witnessing it at first hand, a quick historical overview from Dr Crank at the Whale Bones Arch and time spent researching the development of Whitby in the town’s library. The group stayed in Whitby Youth Hostel and were well looked after by their team and enjoyed the early spring sunshine that appeared throughout the trip. Thankyou to all of the school staff who supported this trip and the outside organisations and individuals who gave their time to us.
