Assessment

We believe that feedback and constructive marking helps raise standards.

It is also an extremely effective medium for ensuring that the students set objectives, review their progress and improve their performance.

KS3

The school has developed its own assessment system as per government guidelines. The QEGS assessment structure has been designed to reflect the key attributes and skills that we would expect the children in each year group to know by the end of the year – these are called Key Performance Standards. These standards are demanding and demonstrate a higher expectation than many non-selective schools.

The school regularly communicates each child's progress in each subject every term, and provide expectations for the year, using the below five descriptors:

    • Beginning – will have occasionally met some criteria with close support.
    • Securing – will have met a number of criteria on more than one occasion.
    • Achieving – will have met the majority of criteria in a range of contexts.
    • Advancing – will have met all criteria consistently and demonstrated some additional skills
    • Excelling – will be working well above the expected standard for this year group.

The drop down headings below provides information about the curriculum followed in each subject and Key Performance Standards for each year group:

Year 7

Year 8

Year 9

KS4

As per government guidelines GCSEs will now be graded using 9-1 (where grade 9 is highest).

For each examination, the top 20 per cent of those who get grade 7 or above will get a grade 9 – the very highest performers;

Each term we will provide parents with information about how we expect their child to perform across their subjects by the end of the course, so that they can see whether their child is on track to meet expectations.

Year 10

Year 11

KS5

As per government guidelines A Levels are graded using grades A*-E.

Each term we will provide parents with information about how we expect their child to perform across their subjects by the end of the course, so that they can see whether their child is on track to meet expectations.
