Assessment

We believe that feedback and constructive marking helps raise standards.

It is also an extremely effective medium for ensuring that the students set objectives, review their progress and improve their performance.

KS3

The school has developed its own assessment system as per government guidelines. 

The school regularly communicates each child's progress in each subject every term, and give working at grades each term, using the below five descriptors:

    • Beginning - has demonstrated a limited understanding and retention of knowledge and skills within the subject.
    • Securing - has demonstrated some good understanding and retention of knowledge and skills within the subject.
    • Achieving - has a good understanding and retention of knowledge and skills within the subject.
    • Advancing - has a very good understanding and retention of knowledge and skills within the subject and be able to demonstrate this is in a number of different contexts.
    • Excelling - has an excellent understanding and retention of knowledge and skills within the subject and will be able to demonstrate this in wide range of contexts.

The drop down headings below provide information about the curriculum followed in each subject for each year group:

As per government guidelines GCSEs will now be graded using 9-1 (where grade 9 is highest).

For each examination, the top 20 per cent of those who get grade 7 or above will get a grade 9 – the very highest performers;

Each term we will provide parents with information about how we expect their child to perform across their subjects by the end of the course, so that they can see whether their child is on track to meet expectations.

As per government guidelines A Levels are graded using grades A*-E.
