Thursday 24 April 2025 QEGS Italy Trip 2025 For the full size images, please see the gallery at the bottom of this page.36 students and 4 members of staff thoroughly enjoyed the 2025 Geography trip to Southern Italy. Following an overnight coach journey from Horncastle to Gatwick and an early morning flight we arrived in Sicily tired but keen to learn about the local landscape and culture. First stop was the beautiful hill-top town of Taormina and its breath-taking amphitheatre that dates back to the time of Ancient Greece.

Thursday 3 April 2025 Open Mic Lunch Spring 2025 At lunchtime today we held our termly open mic lunch. Organised by two members of Y13, six students sang and played piano/guitar to a large audience. Songs included Adele, Coldplay and one original. It was a lovely way to spend our lunchtime and everyone did themselves proud.

Thursday 27 March 2025 Lincolnshire Schools Golf Invitational 2025 On Wed. 26th March, QEGS competed in the first Lincolnshire Schools Golf Invitational, which was played on the Bracken Course at Woodhall Spa Golf Course. The team comprising of W. Trestrail, J. Lascelles, J. Robertson and A. Craigs competed against students from Boston Grammar and Oakham.

Monday 17 March 2025 Future of the Past - Sir Joseph Banks Centre The Future of the Past art exhibition is open for all to see at the Sir Joseph Banks Centre, Horncastle from 18th March to 22nd April. The exhibition has been designed and created by QEGS and Banovallum students as part of a project in partnership with the Sir Joseph Banks Society. Come and see original art pieces - printing, drawings, clay work and more - and here soundscapes and sea shanties inspired by the collections and explorations of Sir Joseph Banks. The museum is open every week on Thursday to Saturday, 10am - 4pm. Friday 14 March 2025 Celebrating Sixth Form Life - Nat Sutcliffe We are absolutely delighted to share the outstanding achievement of our sixth form student, Nat Sutcliffe, who has won the British Powerlifting Championships under the British Drug-Free Powerlifting Association (BDFPA). Nat secured this incredible victory with a personal best lift of 157.5kg.Nat has now qualified for the World Championships in Rome this June. We wish Nat the very best of luck in his future competitions and look forward to following his journey on the international stage. Well done, Nat!

Monday 10 March 2025 National Finalists Badminton March 2025 WOW! The KS4 boys’ badminton have made QEGS history by being the first team to qualify for the national finals. The team achieved this massive achievement on Friday 7th March, when they competed in the Regional Championships at Nottingham Trent University.For the team to qualify for the national finals, they had to play four very tough fixtures. Each fixture consisted of 5 games, two singles and three doubles all games being played first to 15 points. First up, were the tournament favourite Loughborough Grammar.

Wednesday 5 March 2025 QEGS Students in Allegro Apassionato's Concert Series 12 students in years 7-10 travelled to Louth to perform in the Allegro Apassionato's concert series. The students provided a 45-minute programme of varied music including Holst, Bizet, Schonberg, Coldplay and more. Items including vocal, woodwind, brass and string solos and the performance ended with an ensemble performance of Sia's song Unstoppable. The audience were warming and fully appreciated of our students' efforts. It was an excellent afternoon and the students should be proud of their contribution.

Tuesday 4 March 2025 Celebrating Sixth Form Life - Kanak Gupta We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Kanak Gupta, who was the only student at QEGS to secure a prestigious Gold award in the British Biology Olympiad. This remarkable accomplishment places Kanak among the top 5% of students nationwide. Kanak’s success has also earned him a place in the next stage of the competition, where he has been invited to trial for the international British Biology Olympiad team. As part of this selection process, he has been provided with a research paper to prepare. Should he qualify, Kanak will represent the UK team at the international competition in the Philippines this July, with all expenses covered. We extend our congratulations to Kanak and wish him the very best in this exciting opportunity.

Friday 14 February 2025 QEGS jazz and pop cafe On Thursday 13th February, the music department and Parents' Association joined together for the QEGS jazz and pop cafe. Student bands, soloists, the KS3 choir and QEGS jazz band provided an excellent evening of musical entertainment, alongside cream teas, cakes and sweets being available for purchase. Music included everything from Jessie J and Coldplay to The Cranberries and Bill Withers - there really was something for everyone! The students led the evening and over £500 was raised. The money has been split equally between the Parents' Association and QEGS extracurricular music. We are grateful to Steve Pitts from Lincolnshire Music Service for running the jazz band this year, and to the Parents' Association who funded the project.

Thursday 13 February 2025 Year 7 & 8 Girls Football Tournament at QEGS Horncastle QEGS Horncastle recently hosted the Year 7 and 8 Girls Football Tournament, welcoming eight talented teams for an exciting round of competitions. The tournament showcased some fantastic gameplay, with plenty of goals scored and impressive performances from all involved. The QEGS A team emerged as the champions, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork throughout. Remarkably, they didn’t concede a single goal throughout any of the games. After an exciting semi-final - where QEGS A faced QEGS B in a thrilling in-house battle - QEGS A went on to meet KEVIGS in the final. A tense match led to a penalty shootout, where QEGS A held their nerve to claim victory. Meanwhile, our QEGS B team put in a strong performance, securing a respectable third-place finish. A huge well done to all players for their effort and sportsmanship. A special thank you also goes to our team managers and referees, whose support was invaluable in making the event a success. Friday 20 December 2024 Grease: School Edition Last week, QEGS proudly staged an outstanding production of Grease: School Edition that was truly electrifying! Since September, our talented students have been working tirelessly in rehearsals to bring this iconic show to life, and their hard work truly paid off. The production featured all the classic songs that make Grease a timeless favourite, including "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightnin'," "Born to Hand Jive” and "We Go Together." With soaring choreography, cool costumes, and high-voltage performances, the audience was transported back to the unforgettable 1950s, where the students of Rydell High had us rockin’ and rollin' all night long.
