The boys making history for QEGS

On Sunday 30th March, Mr and Mrs Wilkinson accompanied the KS4 boy’s badminton team to the national badminton centre, Milton Keynes to compete in the Badminton National Finals.

The team had qualified after winning the Regional Finals held at Nottingham Trent University earlier in the month. The team are the first badminton team from QEGS to reach the National Finals, where they were representing both QEGS and the whole of East Midlands.

The team were put in a pool with three other schools, one of the schools, Reading were the defending champions! The boys battled extremely hard as well as playing fantastically well and managed to win one of their three matches. This meant that the team finished 3rd in their pool and made into the next pool to play for 5th to 8th position. In this pool, the team won and lost one, meaning the team finished 6th overall. The 6th best KS4 boys badminton team in the country is something that team and school should be very proud of.

A huge congratulations goes to Shreyas Chingale, Harish Kumar, Rohan Rai, Morgan Beese and Shivesh Kumar who were all part of this very successful team. A feat that will stand for a long time.

Also, a big thank you to Mr and Mrs Wilkinson as well as all the parents who attended and supported the boys during a very long day.
