Lincolnshire Schools Golf Invitational 2025

On Wed. 26th March, QEGS competed in the first Lincolnshire Schools Golf Invitational, which was played on the Bracken Course at Woodhall Spa Golf Course. The team comprising of W. Trestrail, J. Lascelles, J. Robertson and A. Craigs competed against students from Boston Grammar and Oakham.

The format of the match was based on stableford points. Stableford is a scoring system in golf which, rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole. The objective in Stableford, therefore, is to have the highest score – unlike traditional scoring methods.

At the end of the round (18 holes) the three best scores from each team were counted. All four boys played brilliantly and as a result came in with a final score of 102 stableford points. A. Craigs (43pts), W. Trestrail (31pts), J. Lascelles (28pts) and J. Robertson (26pts). This score could not be beaten as Oakham finished on 88pts closely followed by Boston Grammar on 87pts. QEGS were deservedly crowned the winners of the first Lincolnshire Schools Golf Invitational.

It was a great day for both staff and students, and hopefully, more schools will compete in next year’s invitational event, where QEGS will be determined to defend their title. Up next, six of our students will be competing in the Lincolnshire County Championships on Friday 2nd May at Carholme Golf Club, Lincoln. Fingers crossed, QEGS will repeat their performance from last year, when they qualified for the National Championships.
