Twelve Y11 girls from QEGS played their first ever 5 a side football games against Caistor Yarborough Academy on Tuesday 28th January. The girls were very excited to play and didn’t disappoint, from the start of each match both QEGS teams were a force to be reckoned with in attack resulting in a hat-trick for Ellie Clay (QEGS A) and Chloe Pickering (QEGS B), however the top scorer was Grace Lunn with an incredible 5 goals! Charlotte Kilby, Sarah Bhatti and Katie Mankelow also got on the score sheet with one goal each. This couldn’t have been achieved without their fellow team mates though, (Amy Bunting, Megan Flood, Kirsty Gladding, Claire Patrick and Emily Thompson). Whilst in goal Chelsea Goddard, the goalkeeper for QEGS A, kept a clean sheet after many spectacular saves. As a result both teams emerged victorious with QEGS A winning 9-0 and QEGS B winning 6-1.
The girls were a credit to QEGS throughout, they demonstrated teamwork, fine skills and an unwavering determination to win. They are already planning the next 11-aside game against local schools - will even more goals be scored?! They all thoroughly enjoyed the experience especially as girls football isn’t always a popular and prioritised activity in their age group. The girls would like to say a massive thank you to Mrs Fieldsend, “the best manager any team could want”. They couldn’t have achieved all of this without her enthusiasm and drive to get them to play. Well done to all that took part.
