Appetite for Change

During 2015 we made some improvements to our catering provision including refurbishment of the pavilion creating an additional food outlet during the summer and, with funding from the MoD, introduction of a food cube and nurture area in the quad adjacent to the main hall.  These elements, along with the revised Food Standards and our desire as a Healthy School to continually refresh the menu and dining area, demonstrate that we place a high importance upon catering at QEGS.

We are excited about our refurbishment project and planning is underway. To help us make changes we would like to invite you to share your views about our catering provision.  If you have suggestions about items you would like to see on our menu or have any other feedback you would like to share, please contact us via This email address is being protected from spambots. Cashless Catering - Vericool

We recognise that break and lunchtimes are important opportunities for socialising, revision workshops, sports and attending clubs.  The introduction of cashless catering has brought a range of benefits including:

  • Reduction to time spent queuing.
  • Increase in speed of service at the point of sale.
  • Anonymity for students receiving Free School Meals.
  • The ability to pay online using Parent Pay.
  • Creation of a loyalty and rewards system.
  • The opportunity to view a report detailing the items purchased.
  • Reduced risk of losing money or spending on non-food items.

Our selected supplier are Vericool for cashless catering and ParentPay for online payments.  Consent is sought upon joining the school, you can view a copy of the consent form below along with some questions and answers.

Catering Services Available

Our aim is not to make a profit but to provide a good choice for students at affordable prices. Parents can be assured that students can only make healthy food and drink choices in our school canteen.

Breakfast Club

Offers toast; freshly baked rolls; crumpets; yoghurt; juice and hot drinks from 8am until the bell goes for the start of the school day. Students are welcome to use the dining hall to catch up on homework or with their friends, if they use the club.

Mid-morning Break and Lunch

A wide range of food and healthy choices are available, inline with the government food standards for schools guidelines. From hot filled panini and pizza slices, to bacon baps and filled pasta pots. Yoghurts and fruit are available for those wanting a light choice. Lunch includes hot cooked meals which we try to keep on trend and affordable. All food is prepared in our school kitchen on site.

Vending Machines

Offering drinks and healthy snacks out of canteen hours and can be used in busy times, if students don’t want to queue.
