Annually, twenty- five Y9 pupils are entered for the British Biology Challenge Competition and high achievers in the sixth form are entered into the Senior and Internediate British Biology Olympiads, as run by the Royal Society for Biology.  Such competitions encourage QEGs biologists to think beyond the specification, thus improving their biological knowledge.  Our students are also encouraged to participate in national biological surveys e.g. the national butterfly survey as carried out this year by a number of Y7-Y10 students and attend university public lectures.
