On Saturday 12th March, West Street Jazz (with TJazz from Tattershall Primary School and Horncastle Strings) and the Girls' Choir performed at the Music for Youth Regional Festival. There are 50 festivals across the UK celebrating music of all styles and it was a privilege to be a part of it. We performed alongside many other schools, area and county groups. The performances were all outstanding and our students did themselves proud. Our feedback from the adjudicators was excellent with some useful development points too.
Forty-seven, year 7 and 8 students went to see London City Sinfonia at Lincoln Drill Hall. The orchestra performed a variety of orchestral classics including Mambo from West Side Story, Jupiter from The Planets and Haydn's Trumpet Concerto. There was an opportunity for three students to conduct the orchestra and the photo shows Hayden Turner directing the group.
It was a fantastic concert thoroughly enjoyed by all.
On Saturday 30th January, 21 students, 3 staff and 3 parents participated in the Lincolnshire Symphony Orchestra and Lincolnshire Massed Schools and Community Chorus performance of Orff's 'Carmina Burana' in Lincoln Cathedral. The concert had sold out with people standing at the back; the atmosphere was truly amazing. The work was conducted by Esther Jones from the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and the soloists were students in their postgrad year at the Royal Northern College of Music. Well done to everyone involved and thank you to the Lincolnshire Music Service who organised the event.
