Remembrance Day

On the Friday before Remembrance Day we gathered for our annual act of remembrance.  The assembly featured this poem, written and beautifully read by Emily Cooper (Year 7).

Poppies

I grow,
Proud  and strong.
I grow,
Giving hope to everyone.
I grow,
Where once nothing grew.

I grow,
The first thing after war.
I grow,
Making spirits soar.
I grow,
Fluttering in the wind.

I grow,
Where once gunshots sounded
I grow,
In peace, surrounded.
I grow,
A remembrance poppy.

At the end of the assembly and following the reading of The Exhortation by Head Boy, Karan Gupta, a wreath of poppies was laid below the Roll of Honour by Head Girl Anna Frick and Emily.  This board lists pupils of QEGS who lost their lives in both world wars.

The Last Post and Reveille were confidently played by Charlie Tant (Y10) with a two minute silence in between.
