Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Careers Education

All our pupils embark on a programme of Careers Education in Year 8 and, with tutor support, the course continues through into the sixth form. Our programme prepares them for the decisions and opportunities available at the end of their secondary education. In this we aim to be supportive rather than directive.

Queen Elizabeth's has a well-structured careers library. Careers evenings are also arranged and there are visits to conferences, universities and polytechnics. We maintain regular contact with personal (careers) advisers who work as part of the Childrens Services Integrated Team.

Work Experience

We organise work experience towards the end of the summer term for all our pupils in Year 10 and there are strong links with local businesses through Science College activities. At sixth form level the Young Enterprise scheme is well established, providing an opportunity for students to gain practical experience of running their own business.
We also hold a two day Business Conference each year for the Lower Sixth, and are grateful to the many companies/local businesses who give generously of their time and expertise to support these schemes. Although some of our students wish to enter employment directly, a high proportion of our leavers proceed to some form of higher or further education. The Headteacher, Deputies and Head of Sixth Form all assist Form Tutors to provide careers counselling, individual help with applications and follow-up advice.
