Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

The sciences are important subjects at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School.  Our A level numbers are high and every year a significant proportion of our students go on to study science subjects at university.

Science is taught in year 7 as a combined science subject.  Biology, Chemistry and Physics are introduced as separate subjects in year 8.  Pupils are taught by subject specialists from then on.  In years 7 to 9 pupils are taught in form groups. Students' performance at the end of key stage 3 is our starting point for selecting students for GCSE sets.

There are usually 5 GCSE sets. The top three sets take AQA GCSEs in Biology, mistry and Physics. Sets 4 and 5 take the AQA Science Trilogy course which leads to two GCSEs.  All of our GCSE students are taught by three specialist teachers.

In the sixth form, students can take Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Geology A levels.

The Head of Science is Mr Cawthorne, who is also Head of Physics.  The Head of Biology is Mrs Hunter, the Head of Chemistry is Ms Westoby and the Head of Geology is Dr Aggett.
